Fast, precise moisture meter for detecting moisture in walls, ceilings and floors. With this easy-to-use, pocket-sized quick moisture indicator, you can quickly and reliably track your drying progress on construction sites or during water damage repair. The electronic moisture indicator works with a non-destructive measuring method based on the dielectric constant/high frequency measuring principle. It has a ball probe for detecting moisture and moisture distribution in solid building materials such as walls, ceilings and floors (only suitable to a limited extent and for indicative purposes for measuring wood). Application First, the desired material is selected via an LCD display and saved at the touch of a button. Then the metal ball is held at a right angle to the material to be measured and the measuring button is briefly pressed. The result is immediately visible.
Handling a ball measuring electrode
It is important to have a 90° angle to the material being measured and to hold the hydrometer/electrode correctly. To avoid any influence from the hand of the person taking the measurement, only the back half of the electrode may be covered by the hand during the measuring and checking process. The front half (display/ball) of the device must remain free.

Correct handling of the device: When taking measurements, always hold the device by the lower part of the housing:

Incorrect handling of the device: During the measurement, the hand influences the measuring field of the ball electrode and thus changes the measured value.
Selectable material table • Display in digits • Cement screed in % by weight • Anhydrite screed in % by weight • Concrete in % by weight • Cement mortar in % by weight • Lime mortar in % by weight • Mixed plaster in % by weight • Gypsum plaster in % by weight • Cement screed in CM % • Anhydrite screed in CM % • Gypsum plaster in CM % • Lime mortar in CM % • Cement mortar in CM % • Mixed plaster in CM % • Concrete in CM %
Wt %: The material moisture in weight percent (also solid moisture) indicates the absolute proportion of free water contained in a solid in %. Values in the range of 0.2 - 0.3 % indicate dry materials.
CM %: The displayed CM value simulates the removal and measurement of a material sample in the manometer, where the sample is mixed with calcium carbide. This creates a gas whose pressure is measured. Depending on the density of the material, the value is very similar to weight %. For anhydrite, for example, 1 weight % = approx. 1 CM%. For concrete floors, the CM value differs significantly: 1 weight % = approx. 1.5 CM%. Dry concrete floors/walls should have CM values below 2.0% (calcium sulfate or anhydrite screed: below 0.3%).
The weight percentage is therefore the easier value to understand for non-specialists.
Advantages and Features
• Handy pocket-sized moisture meter for quick single and series measurements
• A limit value can be set individually for each building material, and if this limit is exceeded, an acoustic warning signal sounds
• Scan mode (1 - 199.9 digits) or direct display of moisture values in weight% or CM-% for building materials, resolution: 0.1%
• Characteristic curves for 7 types of building materials
• Min, max and hold function for the measured values
• Automatic calibration when the device is switched on
• The device is delivered complete with 9 V battery and plastic box
Innovations compared to the previous Hydromette BL Compact B
The BL2 is the further development of its predecessor, the Gann Hydromette BL Compact B.
• Longer measuring probe for more comfortable use
• Significantly stronger high-frequency measuring field for greater penetration depth into the building material
• Finer measurement resolution of now 0-199 digits for an even more precise delimitation of wet areas, which was previously only possible with significantly more expensive measuring devices
• The direct display of the CM % has been expanded to include several building materials.
The manufacturer Gann is one of the leading producers of high-quality moisture measuring devices from Germany. Gann measuring devices are considered standard among working instruments among professionals in building drying and water damage drying. They are also recognized by damage experts in insurance companies.
